A 13-day celebration of delicious food, eye-opening exhibits, captivating entertainment, and great fun. The Fair typically showcases numerous animals, hundreds of commercial attractions, scores of exciting midway rides, and dozens of big-name entertainers.
I was a horseshow kid. I went to the Fair every year until Junior High. An exit sign on 690W claimed "No Geddes St." The lack of a period after the “No” cracked up my English-major mom. Every time. It was fixed by the time I drove there myself.
I probably shouldn't trust childhood memories, but, compared to adult experiences with the Big E and Topsfield, the NY State Fair was so much better. At least compared to the winter horseshow in the same arena and no Fair, which these days I'd probably prefer. (Between the Big E and Topsfield, the latter is better). -Julia
