The Hugo Awards are awards for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy. They were first awarded in 1953, and have been awarded every year since 1955.
Voting for the awards is open to all members of the World Science Fiction Society, and to become a member all you have to do is buy a membership in that year’s Worldcon.

2025 Hugo Finalists – Where to Read Complete Works or Samples for Free
The Seattle Worldcon 2025 committee released the finalists for the Hugo Awards on April 6. Within a few weeks members of the convention will be given access to the Hugo Voter Packet. But you can start reading immediately for free many of the short fiction works, semiprozines, and fanzines, and listening to fancasts.

Yet another version of Dune you've forgotten about
2000 miniseries, based on the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert.
It is directed by John Harrison, and stars Alec Newman as Paul Atreides, William Hurt as Duke Leto Atreides, and Saskia Reeves as Lady Jessica, along with Ian McNeice, Julie Cox, and Giancarlo Giannini.
This was the second overall filmed adaptation of Herbert’s novel, following the 1984 film directed by David Lynch, and preceding Denis Villeneuve’s two-part film adaptation (2021 and 2024).

The Murderbot Diaries, by Martha Wells
Told from the perspective of the titular cyborg guard. Murderbot is eventually freed from enslavement, but instead of killing its masters, it staves off the boredom of security work by binge-ing media. It develops genuine friendships and emotional connections, which it finds inconvenient.

Flow earns Latvia its first-ever Oscar

The NESFA Library in Somerville
The New England Science Fiction Association was founded in 1967 by fans.
NESFA
- publishes books.
- maintains a Science Fiction Library. Membership required to sign out items, but browsing is free. (Includes most of the Hugo nominated novels and novellas).
- Offers community programming, including book clubs, game nights, and media nights (includes screening some Hugo nominees).
